Honors Programs and Scholarships
Hunter hosts scholarships and honors programs that you will become eligible for during your second and third years. Each is unique and you will be a stronger candidate for some over others. Become familiar with them so you can be ready to apply when you’re eligible.
The Solomon Bluhm Scholars Program is designed to support academically successful undergraduate students who are majoring in any Classical Studies field. This includes Greek, Latin, Classical Archaeology, or Classical Studies. Bluhm Scholars receive financial support that covers any outstanding tuition need for four semesters, or until they have earned 120 credits. The program also provides its students with travel and research opportunities, including visits to local cultural & scholarly events and conferences all related to the Classics. Once accepted, Bluhm Scholars must be enrolled full-time in each semester during which they hold the scholarship.
Students must have a 3.5 GPA, and at least 60 credits by the time they enter the program.

Learn more and applyThe Leon Cooperman Fellowship is designed to support students pursuing studies in business and are looking to establish careers in the field. Through the program, students develop critical thinking and leadership skills that will ensure their success in the business world. Fellows are provided with financial support of up to $1,500 per semester, mentorship from the Cooperman Business Center Advisory Board, company tours, guest speakers and specialized workshops.
Students must be U.S Citizens, have earned a minimum of 30 credits at Hunter College and have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better. Additionally, applicants should demonstrate financial need, (students must file an electronic FAFSA), an interest in business and display leadership potential. Applications are accepted each semester.

Learn about the ProgramThe McNair Scholars Program is oriented towards undergraduate students in any field interested in pursuing a PhD, and supports them throughout the grad school application process. Through McNair, students receive mentorship from faculty, GRE prep courses, application fee waivers, graduate school campus visits, and an annual stipend of up to $2800.
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be a U.S citizen or permanent resident, a junior at Hunter, have at least a 3.2 GPA and be a low-income first-generation college student or be from a racially marginalized background. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Learn more about the ProgramThe John P. McNulty Scholars Program is designed to support high achieving undergraduate women in pursuing careers in STEM. The program provides students with leadership training, financial assistance (including a $6,000 stipend and funding to attend conferences), mentorship and assistance with lab and job placements.
To apply, students must be majoring in STEM subjects (physics, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, geography, earth science, mathematics and statistics, computer science, and psychology-neuroscience), have at least a 3.3 GPA, and earned at least 60 credits by the start of the program.

Learn more & applyThe Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship supports students from minority backgrounds in their pursuit of PhDs in humanities and social science fields. The program provides students with a faculty mentor who guides them through two years of independent research. Additionally, the program provides fellows with a $7,500 annual stipend, a tuition waiver, funds for research-related travel, and GRE preparation.
To apply students must be US citizens, permanent residents, or have DACA status. They must have completed at least 36 credits at the time of admission, and have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Applications are due at the end of March.

Learn more & applyThe Mellon Public Humanities and Social Justice Scholars Program provides research support for humanities-focused undergraduates. The program assists the students as they first write a research paper on a topic of their own invention, and then work with a cultural or civic organization to share that work with the public. The program provides students with a $4,000 stipend, a faculty mentor, a public communications mentor, and support in applying to graduate school.
To apply, students must be majoring or minoring in a Humanities field and have earned at least 75 credits by the start of the program. There is no GPA requirement.

Learn more & applyThe Thomas Hunter Honors Program invites academically successful students to join in specialized honors courses that bridge academic fields. While the program does not offer stipends, it provides a tremendous amount of advising and mentorship, and the chance to graduate with honors.
To apply, students must have earned between 24 and 70 credits with a 3.65 GPA or better. cumulative average are invited to be interviewed for the Program. Applications are accepted each semester.
