What To Expect

Freshman Orientation is a required full day event that will prepare you to start your journey at Hunter College this fall. All freshmen are required to attend one full day.

Orientation Highlights

The Hunter Tradition – A welcome from campus leaders where students will learn about how Hunter College traditions have grown into the vibrant and exciting community we know today. You will learn why the Mihi Cura Futuri motto is at the core of Hunter life.

Navigating Campus – Our Orientation Leaders will walk first year students through the main campus at Hunter College to ensure you’re all set for your first day this fall. You will get to learn about the Student Union, library, athletics, and many more places important to your life as a Hunter Hawk.

Community Standards & Student Conduct – The tradition of the university as a sanctuary of academic freedom and center of informed discussion is an honored one, to be guarded vigilantly. Students will learn about the rules of student conduct on Hunter College campus and how these rules support, and enhance the academic experience.

Student Life & Wellness: Financial Well-Being – Learning how to manage your financial wellbeing while in college is an important life skill. You will have many new expenses including tuition and fees, room and board or housing and food bills, books and supplies, and so on. This session will give you some basics to get started, and it introduces you to resources available at Hunter to help you along the way.

Student Life & Wellness: Student Life Outside of Class – The variety of student-life opportunities at Hunter reflects the interests of our diverse student community. Students will learn the many ways you will make our Hunter community your own and all of the way Hunter is here to help you.

Registration for Classes – Students will learn how to stay on track with your degree, what being a part of a learning community means, and how to make an academic plan for the next four years. All freshmen will register for classes during this session.
