Enrollment Next Steps
for General Freshmen
Beginning mid-March 2023, once you have accepted your admission offer and committed to Hunter, review and complete the steps below in order to successfully enroll at Hunter College as a first-year freshman student.
In up to five (5) business days of committing to Hunter and paying your commitment deposit, you will be granted access to your official Hunter College student email account.
College students are provided a Microsoft Office 365 (O365) email account in the following format: CUNYfirst username@myhunter.cuny.edu, e.g., jane.smith03@myhunter.cuny.edu. Your email password is your CUNYfirst password. Whenever you change your CUNYfirst password, your email password will change automatically. (Depending on the traffic volume on the CUNYfirst website, you may need to wait briefly for your password to sync up with your CUNYfirst and email account.)

To access your Hunter email, enter your CUNYfirst username followed by @myhunter.cuny.edu at the login screen.
All official College communication will be sent to your Hunter College email address. Make sure to activate your Hunter College O365 email account immediately and make a habit to check it regularly.
Activate Your Hunter Email AccountIn up to five (5) business days of committing to Hunter College and paying your commitment deposit, you will be sent your Hunter NetID credentials. Your NetID will be needed to:
- register for Freshman Orientation and New Student Convocation
- RSVP for student events
- complete various applications such as declaring a major/minor, late registration, and course repeat requests
- access Hunter's secure WiFi
- access off-campus library resources, computer labs, etc.
To activate your Hunter NetID, follow the instructions in the email notification to log into your NetID account and reset your password.
More About the Hunter NetIDPrior to registering for classes, all students are required to submit MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunization records and the Meningococcal Meningitis Vaccination Response Form.

About the Math Placement Milestone (PDF)Prior to enrolling in classes, all general freshmen will be required to select a Learning Community based on your academic interests and goals in one of the following areas:
- Learning Community 1: Health and Community
- Learning Community 2: Science and the Medical Professions
- Learning Community 3: Money, Power and Social Responsibility
- Learning Community 4: Mihi Cura Futuri (Care of the Future is Mine)
- Learning Community 5: Technology and Communications in a Global Society
- Learning Community 6: Exploring Gotham
- Learning Community 7: Individual and Society
- Learning Communities 8: Diversity and Democracy
- Learning Communities 9: Exploring the Arts and Sciences
You will be required to indicate your first and second choice Learning Community during registration for Freshman Orientation.
Students Admitted to Macaulay at Hunter, Honors Scholar Program, or SEEK Program at Hunter
If you were admitted to the Macaulay Honors College; Athena, Daedalus, Muse, Nursing, Roosevelt, or Yalow Scholar Program; or the SEEK at Hunter Program, please skip this step. You will be invited directly by the program to attend an advising and registration session.

Download the Navigate Student Mobile AppAll new incoming students should upload a photo no later than five (5) business days prior to their scheduled orientation date. Once uploaded, your Hunter ID Card, known as your OneCard, will be available for pick up on your orientation day.
How to Submit Your Photo
- Visit https://onecard.hunter.cuny.edu
- Log in using your NetID and password.
- Navigate to the Profile window (located on the gray bar.)
- Open the online photo upload window by selecting Click to submit a new photo.A new browser tab will open to the Online Photo Submission application.
- Here, you may:
- Click the cloud upload icon to open a local folder to select a photo file,
- Drag a photo file to the cloud upload icon for upload, or
- Snap a photo when a camera is available for the browser device.
- Review the photo requirements, terms and conditions, and preview your uploaded photo.
- Crop and adjust your photo to center, if necessary.
- When satisfied with the image preview, click Submit & Sign Out. If not satisfied with the preview, click Edit pencil icon to restart the photo upload process.
Once the photo has been approved, your OneCard will be available for pickup during your orientation day.
Photo Guidelines
- Desired format: JPEG
- Should be cropped slightly above head to middle of chest
- Should be taken against a plain, light background
- Must be a color photo.
- Must not include sunglasses or hat.
- Must be positioned directly facing the camera.
- Eyes should be open and looking at the camera.
- Can not use any Photo Filters.
