About the SEEK Program

The Percy Ellis Sutton Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge (SEEK) Program is a higher education opportunity program offered in the senior colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY). It was established to provide comprehensive academic support to assist capable students who otherwise might not be able to attend college due to their educational and financial circumstances. Students are admitted into SEEK regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation, race, disability, or creed.

To be eligible for SEEK, you must:

  • be a legal resident of New York State for at least one year prior to entering college;
  • be a high school graduate or recipient of a state-approved equivalency diploma;
  • be inadmissible according to the admissions criteria established for the CUNY four-year college you want to attend;
  • be a first-time freshman or previously enrolled in College Discovery (CD) Program, an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), or Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP); and
  • have a gross family income that meets the New York State guidelines.
More About SEEK Eligibility

Prospective Freshmen

Not all eligible students are accepted to SEEK; therefore, you should submit your applications early to increase your chances of getting selected. If you've earned college credits since graduating high school, you are not eligible to receive SEEK support services, except in the case of students enrolled EOP and HEOP.

SEEK at Hunter only admits freshmen in the Fall semester and all students must abide by the admission deadlines.

To apply to SEEK at Hunter as a freshman:

  1. Review SEEK financial eligibility criteria.
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Tuition Assistant Program (TAP) applications and list Hunter College as one of your college choices.
  3. Submit CUNY Freshman Admission Application to Hunter College and indicate your interest in SEEK.

Freshman selection to SEEK at Hunter is conditional; to gain admission and access to enroll in the College, all SEEK-selected freshmen must first verify their financial eligibility to SEEK and complete the SEEK Summer Bridge Program. Learn more.
