Advisors expect that all new transfer students review these pages and complete any action items by the recommended date – doing so will help ensure that you have a smooth and successful transfer experience to Hunter.

You will be assigned a primary academic advisor in the Office of Advising after your transfer credits are evaluated. If you need further assistance with the registration process you may make an appointment to meet with them, but it is not required.
We strongly encourage students transferring from a Non-CUNY institution to check in with their advisor since CUNY’s policies and requirements will likely differ significantly from your prior school. Advising appointments can be made through Navigate. Class seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis and we strongly recommend that you register as early as possible for the widest availability of course options for the semester, even while you wait for an advising meeting.
To assist with seat availability, Hunter has reserved seats, in the most important and popular courses, specifically for new transfer students. Reserved seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis and we strongly recommend that you register on-time for the widest availability.
We know it can be hard transitioning to a new institution, but the Office of Advising is here to help. If you encounter questions or concerns over your next steps to register for classes, or need additional support before or after an advising meeting, please sign up for a virtual Zoom transfer support drop-in session. Sessions are available up until the start of the semester.
Note that these sessions are meant for quick questions related to course registration and are not intended to replace a meeting with an advisor. You can log in at any time during the hours listed for the session you sign up for, but we kindly ask that you RSVP in advance so we can best assist you. Students will be assisted on a first come, first serve basis as they log in to Zoom.
*Drop in transfer student support is only open to incoming transfer students to Hunter College who have made their admissions deposit and had their transfer credits evaluated. If you are interested in transferring to Hunter College, please contact the Office of Admissions. Continuing transfer students already enrolled at Hunter should schedule an appointment with their primary or major advisor via Navigate for advising services.
As an incoming transfer, it is our expectation that you have registered for classes to the best of your ability. Should you still have questions, you may schedule an appointment with your assigned academic advisor.
Please do not wait for an appointment to register for classes. Academic advisors experience the highest volume of student appointments near the beginning of the semester and you may have to search for meeting dates a week or two in the future.
