Professional Judgements
Professional Judgement allows a Financial Aid Administrator to make changes to a student FAFSA information if certain special conditions are met. In addition, under certain circumstances, we can increase the Student Expense budget to help them take out additional loans. Students with a Student Aid Index (SAI) of 0 or a negative number are already receiving the maximum aid, so Professional Judgement will not assist them in receiving additional funding.
The following is a list of conditions that may qualify you for a Professional Judgement appeal. Circumstances may include:
- Decrease of more than 30 percent of income from the 2022 Federal taxes
- Separation or divorce of a parent or student
- Death or permanent disability of student, parent or spouse
- Receipt or Expiration of Unemployment Benefits
- Birth of a child previously not included on the FAFSA application
