Where can I find my math milestone?
The Math Milestone is located on your CUNYfirst Student Center.
The Math Placement Test is a test students can take if they believe their Math Milestone does not match their math level. The Math Placement Test consists of the ACCUPLACER Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF) and to place into Level 2 courses, the Calculus Readiness Test (CRT). Students can appeal their Math Milestone by taking the Math Placement Test.
Your milestone determines which math course you will be placed into, based on your intended major. This also helps your advising team build your class schedule. Here's a quick guide to the placement levels:
You can take Math 10000, 10200, and STAT 11000. These courses do not require pre-requisites to take and can be used to satisfy the Hunter College Core Requirement in Math and Quantitative Reasoning (MQR Core) without taking the math placement test.
Students with the TEST milestone who plan to major in or follow any of the following fields must take a placement test to determine the appropriate math course:
If your major is not listed above and you are not pursuing a Pre-Health track, you do not need to take a placement test.
Find Out More About the CoursesYou scored a 235 or below on the Math Placement Test and are allowed to take the Math 101EN (Math 101 Course plus online immersion workshop). This is a pre-requisite for Math 10400, 12400, 12550, and STAT 11300.
Find Out More About the CoursesYou scored a 236-275 on the Math Placement Test. This allows you to take the Math 10100. This is a pre-requisite for MATH 10400, 12400, 12550, and STAT 11300.
Find Out More About the CoursesYou scored a 276 on the Math Placement Test. You have permission to take:
Math 10150 - This is a prerequisite for MATH 12550 for students who get below B- in Math 10100/101EN
Math 10400, STAT 11300 - MATH 10400 is the prerequisite for MATH 10500, STAT 11300 may be used as a prerequisite for STAT 21200.
MATH 12400 - This course is for students who do not intend to take calculus.
MATH 12550 - This course is for students who intend to take calculus.
MATH 12500 (for newly accepted transfer students only) - This course may be used as a prerequisite for MATH 15000, 15200, 16000, STAT 21200 and STAT 21300.
You scored a 276 or above on the placement test and a score of 21 or above on the CRT.

First-Time Freshmen: Math Milestones are based on your math grades from high school. You can find your math milestone on your CUNY first account. If you believe your milestone does not match your math level, you can take the Math Placement Test.
Transfer Students: To determine eligibility for math/statistics courses (except for Math 10000, Math 102000, or Stat 11000), you will need to take the Math Placement Test. Placement into Level 2 courses also requires the Calculus Readiness Test (CRT).
Students can appeal their Math Milestone by taking the Math Placement Test.
Currently Enrolled Students: Have completed Math 10100 or a higher math course.
AP Students: A score of 4+ on AP Calculus AB or BC grants Level 2 Math and Calculus credit. Students awaiting scores can request a Math Milestone.
Transfer Students: Have taken an equivalent math course that meets the pre-requisite for the math/statistics courses.
CLEP Exams: While no credit is given, CLEP can be used to demonstrate Math Level proficiency as a pre-requisite for math/statistics courses.
We recommend consulting with an academic advisor from the Math Department.
There are two courses with no pre-requisites that can be used to satisfy the Hunter College Core Requirement in Math and Quantitative Reasoning (MQR Core) without taking the math placement test:
Math 10000 – Basic Structures of Mathematics (3 credits/ 3 hours)
Math 10200 – Mathematics and Everyday Life (3 credits/ 3 hours)
All other mathematics and statistics courses have pre-requisites that can be satisfied by an appropriate Math Milestone.
First-Time Freshmen: Math Milestones are automatically assigned based on your high school transcript. If you believe your milestone is inaccurate, register here.
Transfer Students: If no equivalent math/stat courses have transferred, you’ll need to take the Math placement test to enroll in courses other than Math 10000 or Math 10200. Once your transcripts are evaluated, register here.
Current and Non-Degree Students: Must register in advance to take the placement test, register here.
If you think your math placement is too low based on your skills and past achievements, you can request a one-time appeal to take a higher-level course.
