BUILDING BRIDGES
Engaging Students and Connecting to the Community

Through dynamic interdisciplinary coursework and activities designed for both students and the community that help broaden our understanding of Jewish history and culture, the Jewish Studies Center provides a bridge to the past, present and future.

ABOUT THE CENTER

The Jewish Studies Center at Hunter College is a cutting-edge interdisciplinary effort with an exciting diversity of activities on the Jewish experience from Biblical times to the present day.

We offer students new and compelling approaches to understanding the contemporary world, while fostering connections between a variety of disciplines such as history, art, language, literature and more. The broad nature of the programs is designed to strengthen ties between Hunter and the New York City community, while also preparing students for an array of career and graduate study paths.

Offerings include language studies in Hebrew and courses in Hebraic and Judaic history and culture, reflecting the diverse Hunter student body and Hunter’s deep connections to New York City. Students can receive academic credit for fieldwork with a Jewish community agency, accredited summer study programs in Israel, and guided independent study.

We offer members of the community lectures and events with prominent thought leaders who explore New York Jewish life and current issues thoughtfully and intellectually.
