Dr. Catherine Raissiguier completed her undergraduate education in France and holds a master’s degree in women’s studies/American studies and a doctorate in comparative and international education from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She is the author of Reinventing the Republic: Gender, Migration, and Citizenship in France (Stanford University Press, 2010) and Becoming Women/Becoming Workers: Identity Formation in a French High School (SUNY Press, 1994).
Dr. Raissiguier is currently at work on the gender, race, class and sexuality underpinnings of the 2016 burqini bans in France and the debates they have generated. Dr. Raissiguier has taught women’s and gender studies at SUNY/Buffalo, the University of Michigan, Middlebury College, University of Oregon, Oregon State University, the University of Cincinnati and New Jersey City University. She joined the Hunter College faculty in 2014 and is the chair of the department.
