Dr. Tom Holland has been a physical therapy clinician for over 42 years and an educator for future physical therapists for over 37 years. He has been cited for clinical excellence at the Kessler Institute of Rehabilitation, and teaching excellence at Hunter College.
Dr. Holland has maintained clinical practice with pro bono physical therapy services following retirement from formal inpatient clinical practice. In addition, he has provided continuing education for practicing physical therapists in wound care and prevention, and the integration of physical modalities in clinical practice.
Dr. Holland’s main areas of professional interest include physiology and the therapeutic effects of paced breathing, improving quality of life following traumatic brain injury, and promoting awareness as part of therapeutic interventions. His current research focuses on measuring physiological responses to therapeutic interventions and measuring heart rate variability during breathing exercises.
Dr. Holland teaches courses on functional training, kinesiology, physical modalities, physical therapy examination, wound care, and orthotics/prosthetics.
