Profile

David R. Mootoo received a BS and MS from the University of the West Indies and a PhD from the University of Maryland. He did his postdoc research at Duke University. At Hunter, he teaches courses in organic, synthetic and carbohydrate chemistry. His research centers on the design, synthesis and biological properties of small molecules that may interdict in disease-related carbohydrate pathways.

Educational Background

  • The University of West Indies (B.S.)
  • The University of West Indies (M.S.)
  • University of Maryland (Ph.D. 1986)
  • Duke University (Postdoc, 1987-1989)

Courses

Courses taught have included:

  • CHEM 22200  Organic Chemistry 1
  • CHEM 22400  Organic Chemistry II
  • CHEM 32200  Organic Chemistry III
  • CHEM 75100  Advanced Organic Chemistry II - Synthetic Organic
  • CHEM 85900  Carbohydrate Chemistry

Research

Research Focus

  • Bioorganic Chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Organic Chemistry

Research Statemenet

Our research centers on the design, synthesis and biological properties of small molecules that may interdict in disease-related carbohydrate pathways. Representative projects are methods for broad-based synthesis of tailored glycomimetics, and applications of immuoactive glycolipids, carbohydrate-based antiviral agents and tumor targeting cytotoxic agents.
