The Decarbonization Leadership program marks a momentous step toward impactful decarbonization and electrification projects for the Hunter College campus.
Hunter + Decarbonization
- The Decarbonization Leadership Program (DLP) is an electrification initiative administered by the New York Power Authority (NYPA). Enacted by New York State, the Decarbonization Leadership Program develops energy and emissions profiles of the State’s largest carbon-emitting facilities – and decarbonization action plans to guide facility improvements that will reduce carbon emissions in support of the State’s nation-leading Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.
- Hunter is a select collaborator within the DLP and throughout the course of the program — NYPA, Hunter, and the consultant energy partner Ramboll, will build upon the work within Hunter’s Energy Master Plan and provide scenario planning and conceptual phasing plans for how to decarbonize the campus.
Buildings represent 32% of all pollution in New York, and as one of the largest building owners, the Decarbonization Leadership Program (DLP) will enable the State to cut on-site pollution from state entities and accelerate progress toward a cleaner building sector.
The objectives of the DLP is the creation of a Decarbonization Action Plan that will provide scenario planning and conceptual phasing plans for how to decarbonize the Hunter campus. The Leadership project team will perform detailed systems evaluations, technology screening, determine and analyze key decarbonization concepts, and conduct network and utility infrastructure investigations inclusive of space evaluations for thermal energy networks and new distributed energy resources (DER)!
We welcome engagement from the Hunter campus community, and appreciate the opportunity to keep students informed and educated on Hunter’s decarbonization process.
