As the director of public safety at Hunter College, Joseph “Joe” Foelsch dedicates himself to providing excellent protection and service to the Hunter College community and endeavors to ensure a safe and secure environment for social interactions and education. He oversees fire safety, access control, fleet operations, the closed-circuit television system, and the general safety of faculty, staff, students, and visitors on campus. Hunter College students inspire him with their hopes and aspirations.
Foelsch’s prior experience as a high-school teacher provides him with a unique perspective on learning environments. His 23 years working in the FBI and training as a U.S. Navy submarine veteran have given him a strong background in public safety and protection and a solid base for interaction with the Hunter community.
Foelsch holds a BS in business administration from the New York Institute of Technology and an MS in national resource strategy from the National Defense University/Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
