Leah Garrett is the Director of the Jewish Studies Center and Director of Hebrew and Jewish Studies. She has published four books in Jewish literary history including her most recent, Young Lions: How Jewish Authors Reinvented the American War Novel, which won last year’s Jordan Schnitzer book award for American Jewish history and was a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award. Her new book, X-Troop: The Secret Jewish Commandos of World War Two, is forthcoming with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Chatto (Penguin). She has also been the recipient of multiple fellowships including a Fulbright Fellowship to Tel Aviv University and a ACLS Junior Faculty Mellon.

Professor and Hebrew Administrator
Yitzhak Berger is Professor of Biblical Studies at Hunter and Hebrew Administrator. He specializes in medieval biblical interpretation and literary interpretation of the Bible. His most recent book, Jonah in the Shadows of Eden, was published by Indiana University Press in 2016. Yitzhak teaches courses on the Jewish Bible at Hunter College.

Doctoral Lecturer and Hebrew Coordinator
Doron Friedman was born and raised in Israel and has a Doctorate in Education. Since 2004 he has been teaching Hebrew in the United States, at the University of California-Santa-Cruz, the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey CA for the US army, The Foreign Service Institute (FSI), and Northeastern University in Boston MA. Doron runs the Hebrew language program for Hunter.
