Communication Planning

post-it notes

Planning events and programs for students takes a lot of time and resources. However, taking a few moments to lay out a simple plan that conveys how you will reach out to your target audience will help minimize rushed efforts that can lead to mistakes in your promotion.

How to Build a Communication Plan

To start building your plan, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Establish your objective. What is the primary goal of your campaign or communication? Do you have secondary goals you wish to achieve?
  2. Identify your audience. Consider who you wish to reach with your communication effort and what information you may need identify them.
  3. Choose your result metrics. Consider how you will assess the results of your efforts and how you may adjust your plan along the way.
  4. Meet with us! Once you have a general sense of what you’d like to do, send over a Communication Service Request so we can assist you with building out and executing your communication plan.

Communication Planning Meetings

Schedule a Meeting

We offer Communication Planning Meetings by appointment for the Fall semester in June – August and for the Spring semester in November – January. These meetings typically last about an hour and are geared toward discussing your student engagement plans for the upcoming semester. These meetings are also a great way to help our team learn more about the role of your office and any student engagement challenges you are currently trying to solve. Participants should include 1-2 staff members who are directly involved with these efforts.

As a result of the meetings, we’ll present recommendations to address challenges that were discussed and will build and share a project plan that includes next steps and action items for moving things forward.

If you were unable to make one of our Communication Planning Meeting offerings, but would like to meet with us to discuss your student engagement efforts, please submit a Communication Service Request.
