Hunter Has Heart (HHH)

Overview

Hunter Has Heart is a cohort-based volunteer experience with a substantive out-of-classroom learning component. HHH aims to develop student leadership skills and to empower students with the relevant knowledge and project-based experience to make a practical impact in their local community.

The projects will center on social justice through student advocacy.

Meetings and presentations will take place in virtual and in-person settings. Volunteer hours may be completed in a virtual or in-person setting.

Fall Semester
  • Fulfill 25 volunteer hours
  • Participate in weekly meetings
  • Attend leadership development events
  • Reading assignments/journal
  • Group project proposal presentation
Spring Semester
  • Fulfill 25 volunteer hours
  • Participate in weekly meetings
  • Attend leadership development events
  • Reading assignments/journal
  • Group project/advocacy work
  • Spring break experiential learning trip.

If selected, you must be available on Wednesdays from 2:30 pm–3:45 pm for group meetings (unless the College is closed or changes in the class schedule).

Qualifications

Must be a matriculated freshman, sophomore or junior. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or better

Hunter Has Heart Presents: Vigorous Civility (4/23)

This event will explore free speech, respectful discourse and the principles of Vigorous Civility:

  • The first principle—assuming the best and not suspecting motives. 
  • The second principle—disagreeing without delegitimizing. 
  • The third principle—the search for common ground.

The event will include a video presentation and an interactive poster making component.

Light refreshments will be served. This event is opened to the entire Hunter community. No RSVP required.

Food Preparation Demo

The Nutrition Education group will present a food preparation demo. Join the Hunter Has Heart student cohort and learn how to prepare convenient and nutritious food, including sandwiches, overnight oats, and fruit salad.

Participants will receive food samples and giveaways.
Free to all Hunter students!
RSVP not required. Space limited to 60.

Check back in November — Hear the Hunter Has Heart cohort present their Spring project proposals. Groups include Digital Media Outreach, Food Security and Nutrition Education, and Student Resources Outreach. All students are welcome to attend.
