SLC Workshops 2022

These events prepare you for success in taking advantage of career opportunities and interviewing. All workshops take place on Zoom.

There's No 'I' in Lead

March 9, 1pm
How do you define leadership? In some cases, leadership and service are discussed separately but can they be one and the same? Can you serve those you lead? We will explore definitions of leading and serving, including ideas from participants, to answer these questions.
Facilitator: Christina Waszak

Fit to Lead

March 22, 1pm
Discover strategies for effective leadership, including self-care, mentorship, and other motivational tips.
Facilitator: Chris Molina

Code Switching: Bringing Your True Self to Every Conversation

April 28, 1pm
Description: This signature program is designed to equip students of color and white classmates, staff, and faculty with the tools to understand Code Switching, its inherent benefits and harms. More than anything, Chris wants you to know that you can talk openly and genuinely, in all social situations, without putting the comfort of others before your own.
Facilitator: Chris Molina

Facilitator Bios

Christina Waszak
Waszak's experience has primarily been as a mentor, workshop facilitator and consultant who assists people with achieving their ideas of success. Whether you are a current college student, a new professional or someone who has been working for some time now, you can use a helping hand, encouraging words, constructive feedback or a safe place to vent. She enjoys providing these resources to others, and currently serves as the Assistant Director of Student Activities and Leadership at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). Waszak earned her Master's degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Brooklyn College.

Chris Molina
Of Puerto Rican and Trinidadian descent, Molina grew up in predominantly African American and Latinx communities, and was comfortable interacting in each. What he discovered as an adult in the Marines and in college, was that he also knew how to effortlessly speak in majority-White organizations.  He was fluent in each, without even realizing it. He could code switch seamlessly.

Molina is now a personal development coach who received the 2020 NAMCA College Speaker of the Year Award. He’s also the Amazon best-selling author of I’m in a Leadership Role, Now What? The Student Edition, and a podcaster on “Professional by Choice” and “How’d You Meet?” Molina is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of seven years, and an alumnus of Purdue University. More than anything, Molina is a father (#GirlDad), husband, son, brother, and an East Chicago, Indiana native.
