The Student Activities Multicultural Exchange (SAME) is a series of programs that address issues of diversity and multiculturalism on campus.

Goals

  • Encourage a climate of mutual respect among members of the Hunter Community.
  • Increase your awareness of your own culture and others.
  • Engage and support our cultural, religious and social justice clubs.
  • Inspire action and encourage you to address social injustice.

African American Food-ways: From Enslavement to the Great Migration and Beyond

This workshop takes you on a culinary journey from the continent of Africa to the American South and beyond. During the workshop we’ll discuss the origins of African-American food-ways, dispel common myths about soul food and learn more about the many African retentions present in regional Black American cuisines.

Introduction to Plant Medicine

Learn the basics of using beneficial herbs and roots to support our immune systems, nourish our bodies and assist in managing stress and anxiety.

  • Taste of Africa
    These cooking classes teach you how to create authentic, delicious and nutritious meals in your home while you become acquainted with African cuisine.
  • Remembering and Connecting with Our Ancestors
    Learn how to honor your ancestors in your daily life, from traditional folkways around the world to less obvious ways in which we can uplift those who came before us.
  • How to Eat on a Budget
    We focus on meal prepping for a week. Learn to create delicious and nutritious meals that are also economical.
  • Debunking Common Food and Nutrition Myths
    Learn the truth about commonly held concepts about food, nutrition and health, many of which are now considered false. You will be able to get answers to your own nutrition questions during the discussion.
  • Hispanic Heritage Week
    Enjoy foods that are influenced by the flavors of Spain and ingredients found south of the border, while you learn about their history and cultures.
  • Soul Food Festival
    Taste and learn about the influences that put the “soul” in soul food.
