Advising

Here to help you on your journey

Together, we’ll make sure that you'll stay on track with your graduation requirements while abroad. We will guide you and answer questions as you plan your study abroad experience!

MEETING WITH EDUCATION ABROAD STAFF

We offer in-person and video conference advising via Zoom. Students interested in any of Hunter's university exchange programs must schedule an advising appointment.

Before scheduling an advising appointment, please complete the following steps:

  1. Search our programs and familiarize yourself with the options you have: Hunter faculty-led and short-term programs and exchanges, CUNY programs, partner programs.
  2. Attend a Study Abroad 101 webinar, or watch the recording of a previous session below. Advising appointments should not be scheduled until you have attended or watched the video!
Academic Advisor

In order to receive credit for the courses you take abroad, it is crucial that you discuss your study abroad plans with your academic advisor. We recommend doing this early in your Hunter College career, so that you can plan ahead and understand when would be the best time to study abroad and how to ensure that your planned courses abroad will fit within your academic plan. Visit the Hunter Advising page to learn more!

Drop-in Hours with Peer Mentors

Interested in studying abroad, but not sure where to start? Drop by our office during our peer mentor hours to gather information about:

  • Where you can study abroad
  • What types of programs are available
  • Navigating the Education Abroad website
  • How to apply

Fall 2025 Peer Mentor Hours - 9/8/25 - 12/15/25:

  • Mondays 2-5pm
  • Wednesdays 3-5pm
  • Thursdays 12-2pm

Spring 2026 Peer Mentor Hours will be updated in December 2025.

If the College is closed on one of the above days, peer advising hours will not occur.

NOTE: To address specific individual questions, such as those related to academic records or financial aid, students MUST make an appointment with Sarah or Emma. Peer mentors are only able to provide information about programming and process, as well as answer general questions.

Further Assistance

Having Trouble Scheduling an Appointment?

Email edabroad@hunter.cuny.edu to make an appointment. You can also search for both staff members on Navigate, or search for "one-on-one advising" with "Education Abroad" as the indicated department.

Can't Keep Your Appointment?

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please log into Navigate to cancel the appointment. This will allow another student to make an appointment at that time.
