When you meet with us to discuss your program options, we will share cost information and suggestions on how to find scholarships and aid depending on the program you seek. There are options for all types of programs!
  • Speak with your campus financial aid officer to learn more about specific funding options available, and the required procedures for you to receive funding.
  • Research external funding sources. Our team will share suggestions of external funding sources. We recommend that you also conduct your own research on scholarships and grants that may be available to you.
  • Don't hesitate to ask us questions! Our goal is to ensure that you are aware of all the details related to your program's cost and financial aid options. We want to support your study abroad goals, so please ask us questions when we meet, via email, or at an info session. We're here to help!

Did you know? The Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1992 mandated that a student can receive financial aid for the costs of studying abroad if the student is enrolled in a program approved by the home institution. Moreover, the student would be eligible to receive "grants, loans, or work assistance without regard to whether the study abroad program is required as a part of the student's degree."

Below are some specific scholarships to apply for and great resources. Pay attention to deadlines, and start the process early!

Using Your Financial Aid Abroad

The number one reason students don’t study abroad during college relates to personal finances and the assumed cost associated with living in a foreign country. However, before students jump to a decision to not study abroad, they should consider the multiple financial aid opportunities that are actually available to them. With that kind of unexpected help, students may find that studying abroad is actually pretty affordable.

What kind of financial aid is available for study abroad?

All program descriptions contain a list of FAFSA awards that may be applied towards education abroad.

  • Contact the Office of Financial Aid directly for specific questions about how your financial aid package may be applied towards your education abroad.
  • Learn more on Finance Your Trip Page on the Global CUNY site.
