Summary

Locations:
In collaboration with the Hunter College Department of Romance Languages, the Office of Education Abroad recommends two USAC programs for students interested in studying French language and culture:

  • Lyon, France
  • Pau, France

Program Dates:

  • View the Lyon program calendars
  • View the Pau program calendars

Credits Offered: 3-12 credits

Application Deadlines:

  • Session I, or Session I & II — You must apply to USAC by April 1 of the program year (early admission deadline February 15)
  • Session II — You must apply to USAC by May 1 of the program year (early admission deadline March 15)

How to Apply

To apply, you must first apply to the Office of Education Abroad, following the Affiliated Programs guidelines. Then complete an application for your chosen program through USAC. See details in Program Description below.

Students are responsible for meeting the payment deadline regardless of funding source, i.e. Macaulay Opportunities Fund, scholarships, loans, or any other type of financial aid. Late fees will be applied to all delayed payments.

Financial Aid: Please be sure to meet with the Financial Aid Office to discuss your particular financial aid package.

Scholarships: In addition to the USAC Scholarships and Gilman Scholarship, students should visit our Scholarships Page for more opportunities.

  • Note that USAC and Gilman scholarship application deadlines are before these programs' application deadlines.
  • Students interested in applying for the Gilman scholarship should email Stephen Lassonde at ops@hunter.cuny.edu.

Program Description

Photo of a street corner in Lyons, FranceUSAC, an affiliate of Hunter's Office of Education Abroad, offers summer programs in Lyon, France and Pau, France that are recommended by the Hunter College Department of Romance Languages.

Courses are available in French language, literature, and other subjects. There are also course options taught in English.

  • The Lyon program has a prerequisite of one year of college-level French (if studying French).
  • The Pau program offers French language courses at all levels.
  • Students may chose to study abroad in Summer Session I, Summer Session II, or Summer Session I & II for either program.

Prerequisites

  • Please refer to USAC's website for program dates, fees, prerequisites and application requirements, and available courses.
  • All applicants must fulfill Hunter's general eligibility requirements along with any program-specific prerequisites or requirements.

To apply:

  1. Apply to the Office of Study Abroad before applying to a USAC program.
    • For "Name of Program," select "USAC SUMMER: Lyon, France," or "USAC SUMMER: Pau, France"
  2. After receiving approval from the Office of Education Abroad, submit your program application to USAC.

Credits & Grades

Students will only receive credits if their converted grade is "C" or above. Letter grades for this program will appear on the transcript, but will not count towards the Hunter GPA. If grades convert to below C (C- to F), they will appear on the transcript as F.
