Program Description

In an exciting collaboration with a local dance company in Havana, Cuba, this program will expand student knowledge about cultural dances and the cultures of origin (Cuba, the African Diaspora), while exposing students to this unique culture through the lens of dance. Students will have the opportunity to create and collaborate with local choreographers, dancers, and scholars and to gain experience using Spanish terminology in the dance classroom. Students will participate in dance courses taught by local artists, conduct research, and take part in teaching practicum sessions that will inform their work as they create curriculum for teaching the cultural dance forms in K-12 or higher education.

Prerequisites
Applicants must be either: an upper-junior or senior Dance major, or enrolled in (or an alumni of) one of the following programs – MA in Dance Education, BA-MA in Dance Education, Adv. Certificate in Dance Education, CLASS Leadership (Dance Teacher Cohort).

Students in this program will receive both credits and letter grades. Grades will count towards their Hunter GPA.
