How to Apply

  1. You must first apply to the Hunter Office of Education Abroad
  2. Then you must complete an application for your chosen program through the host school following either
    • the Affiliated Programs guidelines (for Lüneberg)
    • or the CUNY Programs guidelines (for Berlin)

Lüneberg, Germany via USAC

The Lüneburg program is ideal for students interested in learning the German language and focusing on European Studies—specifically Germany's role within the European Union. Through formal coursework and personal interaction with the host culture, you will greatly expand your language skills and knowledge of German society. Lüneburg offers students the quality of life of a smaller community without sacrificing the cultural resources and activities of a large metropolitan city. Lüneburg is also only 30 minutes away from former East Germany, providing a unique vantage point from which to study the dynamics of reunification.

The summer Lüneburg program offers two five-week sessions that can be combined for a 10-week session. An intensive language approach allows you to complete up to one semester of language study in five weeks, or a year in ten weeks; you can choose courses from: Intensive German Language and German and European Studies. However, the academic courses are only a part of the intended value of a program abroad. Participation in cultural activities, festivals, field trips and an optional tour to Berlin also form an integral part of the program.

How to Apply
  1. Apply to the Office of Education Abroad to study abroad. Select "USAC Program" as the type of program, and type in “Luneberg” and your session of choice (i.e. Session I, Session II, or both) under the specific "Name of Program."
  2. Submit your program application to USAC.
  3. Please note that USAC has internal scholarships to which you can apply as a Hunter student. If you are interested in pursuing these, we recommend submitting your USAC Scholarship application at the same time as your USAC program application.
Prerequisites

Applicants must fulfill Hunter's general eligibility requirements along with any program-specific prerequisites or requirements.

Credits & Grades

Students in this program may receive 3-6 credits per session.

Students will only receive credits if their converted grade is "C" or above. Letter grades for this program will appear on the transcript, but will not count towards the Hunter GPA. If grades convert to below C (C- to F), they will appear on the transcript as F.

Berlin, Germany via Queens College

Visit and explore the capital of Germany, a European center of science, politics, culture, and the arts. The most affordable capital within Europe, Berlin's many attractions draw in students and visitors from around the world.

The FUBiS program is a highly regarded program for students who want to experience Berlin's dynamic culture while taking German language and culture courses (in German or in English) at the Freie University of Berlin, one of the top research universities in Europe. FUBiS offers German language courses at five different proficiency levels, and culture courses in German and English on European topics. Program fee includes a guided tour through the Reichstag Building and the Federal Parliament, a riverboat tour through downtown Berlin, a weekly movie time with popular and well-known German films, a FUBiS student ID (for reduced price meals at the dining hall, student tickets for sights, museums etc.), access to computing (including the Internet), and printing facilities on campus.

How to apply:

  1. Apply to the Office of Education Abroad to study abroad. Select "CUNY program" as your program type, and then enter “FUBiS Berlin – Queens College” as the "Specific Name of Program."
  2. Submit your program application to CUNY Queens College.

Prerequisites

All applicants must fulfill Hunter's general eligibility requirements along with any program-specific prerequisites or requirements.

Credits & Grades

Students in this program will receive both credits and letter grades. Grades will count toward their Hunter GPA.
