Orthopedic Conditions

About

A variety of orthopedic/mobility-related disabilities result from congenital conditions, accidents, or progressive neuromuscular diseases. These disabilities include, but are not limited to, conditions such as cerebral palsy, orthopedic disabilities (such as arm/hand disabilities), paralysis, spina bifida, spinal cord injury (paraplegia or quadriplegia) and stroke, etc.

Available Support

Some of the support available to students with orthopedic disabilities include:

  • Accessible entrances/exits
  • Accessible restrooms
  • Class scheduling to allow for extra mobility time
  • Computer software programs for self-editing, word prediction, and grammar/spell checks
  • Extended time for exams
  • Locker (assigned based on priorities)
  • Note-takers
  • Personal, academic and career track counseling
  • Program planning and advisement specific to a student's needs
  • Scribes during examinations

Not all students will need all of the above services.

Specific accommodations are based on the diagnostic information provided by each student and consultation with the Intake Counselor.
