Degree Audit

Degree Audit Procedure

The final step in your graduation application consists of a thorough review of your academic record, known as the degree audit. This mandatory process for all graduating students is completed by the Office of the Registrar Degree Audit Unit under the auspices of New York State, the City University of New York and Hunter College. The audit determines whether all college, major and/or minor requirements will be satisfied by the end of the applicable academic term. The audit supersedes any and all other indications that a student has satisfied the degree requirements.

What Happens After I Apply for Graduation?

After you submit your graduation application, the Degree Audit Unit will conduct a preliminary audit review during the semester. Your graduation status will be updated based on the results of this review. To view your graduation status, sign in to CUNYfirst and navigate to: Student Center > Graduation and Transcript > Application for Graduation.

Please see below for an explanation of your graduation status and the next steps to take.

Degree Checkout Status Meaning What To Do Next
Eligible to Apply You are eligible to submit a graduation application.Log in to CUNYfirst to apply for graduation, after checking that all your degree requirements will be completed by the end of the term.
Applied for GraduationYou have submitted a graduation application for the specified term. Your record has not been reviewed yet by the Degree Audit team. Check your CUNYfirst > Student Center and Hunter College email for updates.
Program in ReviewYour record has been reviewed for graduation, and it has been determined that you have outstanding requirements that must be completed in addition to your current coursework. Please check your MyHunter email for a message from the Office of the Registrar’s Degree Audit Team.
Need to Finish Pending Coursework Your record has been reviewed, and you are on track to graduate pending the successful completion of your current coursework. You must successfully complete all current coursework to be awarded your degree.
Denied After a final review of your record, it has been determined that you have not completed all degree requirements and therefore cannot be awarded the degree at this time. The Degree Audit team will notify you and update your status to “eligible to apply” for graduation for the following semester. Check your email and contact the Degree Audit team with any questions:
dgraudit@hunter.cuny.edu
Withdrawn Your graduation application has been withdrawn because of a request from you, your advisor, or from the academic department. If you have not withdrawn your application, please contact your advisor or the degree audit team.
ApprovedThe Degree Audit team has completed your final audit, and you have been approved to graduate. Please allow time for your degree to be officially awarded. If you require proof of graduation prior to the degree conferral for the semester, please contact us at regweb@hunter.cuny.edu.
Degree Awarded You have completed all requirements and have been awarded the degree. Please note that diplomas may take 6–8 weeks to be delivered. In the meantime, students may request an official transcript through Parchment, which will indicate that their degree has been awarded.
Final Graduation Audits

At the end of the semester, once all instructors have submitted grades and the “end-of-term" processes are complete, a final graduation audit will commence. If it is determined that you have successfully fulfilled all degree requirements, your CUNYfirst record and academic transcript will be updated with a “Degree Awarded” notation. You will receive an email confirmation at the conclusion of the review confirming that your degree has been awarded by Hunter College.
