Apply to Graduate

How to Apply to Graduate

To graduate from Hunter means that you have officially completed your academic degree. You must apply to graduate; it does not happen automatically.

Once you’ve met the following requirements, you are ready to apply to graduate:

  • 120 Credits
  • GPA of 2.0 (C average) or better
  • Completion of the Hunter Core Requirements (HCR) or General Education Requirement (GER)
  • Completion of a major

To apply to graduate:

  1. On CUNYFirst, select the drop down tab that reads Apply to Graduate.
  2. Apply for the semester in which you plan to complete your degree requirements.
  3. Apply on-time! Check the Application Filing Periods below.
  4. Await your degree audit results.
  5. Review your degree audit results and obtain any missing requirements prior to your anticipated graduation date.

Additional Instructions

Prior to applying to graduate:

  • Be sure all personal information on your CUNYfirst account is correct and up-to-date, including your name, permanent address and Social Security number.
  • Check that you have the appropriate major, minor and/or certificate program declared on your transcript.
  • Confirm that you have submitted the appropriate documentation for any waivers, substitutions, transfer credits or ePermits.

Upon graduation from the College, your academic record at Hunter College will be closed and cannot be changed.

Commencement Ceremony

Students who have applied to graduate will be invited to attend the Commencement Ceremony. Note that an invitation to and/or attendance at the Commencement Ceremony is not an indication that you have officially completed your degree.
