Eligibility for ePermit Application
Degree-seeking students must meet eligibility criteria to register for classes during the term of the ePermit request. Non-degree students in all categories are ineligible. They may apply to each CUNY college directly as non-degree students.
- Graduating students are not eligible to apply for ePermits for any term following their final semester at Hunter College. Students will need to revise their Graduation Term if needed.
- We strongly advise students against participating in ePermits, non-CUNY permits, or study abroad programs during their final semester. Missing or incomplete (INC) grades from these courses may jeopardize timely graduation.
- If a student has a break in attendance during the Fall or Spring term, they will lose access to register for future terms. To reactivate their Hunter account and regain registration access, they must submit a Re-entry Form.
Undergraduate students must be in Good Academic Standing, which requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher on their Hunter College record. There are no exceptions and GPAs will NOT be rounded up.
Graduate students must be in Good Academic Standing, which requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher on their Hunter College record. There are no exceptions and GPAs will NOT be rounded up.
- Negative service indicators, also refer to as holds that restrict enrollment (such as adding or swapping classes) can affect the outcome of your application, often resulting in denial. Please review the ‘Task & 'Holds’ tile on your CUNYfirst account before submitting an application.
- Students are responsible for adhering to the established policies, procedures, requirements, and restrictions at Hunter College, including immunization, probation, etc.
- The student’s Home college, where they are registered, is responsible for verifying that prerequisite(s) have been satisfied through an equivalent course. If no equivalent course is available, the Home college must assess whether the student is sufficiently prepared to enroll and meets the prerequisite requirements.
First Semester students [Undergraduate and Graduate] are not eligible to apply (with exceptions*) for ePermit.
- Students must complete their first semester at Hunter College.
- All grades must be posted to CUNYfirst.
- Earn an eligible Hunter cumulative GPA.
- Students must fulfill all additional requirements outlined above.
- Submission deadlines are final and applicable to all students.
*Exceptions to First Semester students are – Macaulay Honors College, Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), and CUNY-Baccalaureate for Unique and Interdisciplinary Studies (CUNY-BA) students:
- Must meet all other requirements stated above, excluding GPA.
- M.H.C. and CUNY-BA students should contact their program advisor to discuss their interest in taking courses on ePermit.
- ROTC and Graduate students seeking ePermit, should email epermit@hunter.cuny.edu for initial screening.
Transfer students seeking to take ePermits during their first semester at Hunter College must meet all eligibility criteria. For example, a student admitted in the Fall 2025 semester who wants to get an ePermit for said semester:
- Must meet all other requirements stated above, excluding GPA.
- Have an Enrollment Appointment that has begun, and both home and host college ePermit portals should be open.
