Requirements & Timeline

Requirements for Taking Pre-requisites on ePermit

ALL prerequisites must be fulfilled at Hunter College, NOT the host school, before an ePermit is approved as per CUNY policy.

For example, if a Hunter student requests to take BIOL 12000 at another CUNY campus, the following prerequisite: (One course from CHEM 100LC, CHEM 102LC or CHEM 104LC and one course from CHEM 101LB, CHEM 103LB, CHEM 105LB or CHEM 106LB) or CHEM 11100 or CHEM 11200 or CHEM 11300 MUST be fulfilled at Hunter College.

Application Period and Processing Timeline

The ePermit portal opens to all students and is not linked to individual enrollment appointments or available by special request. Typically, Summer/Fall ePermit portals open in April – May and Winter/Spring ePermit portals open in mid – November. The exact dates are determined near the start of registration. We do not control the ePermit opening dates or deadlines of other colleges. Please refer to their academic calendar or contact them directly for more information. Students can submit ePermit applications when they have a valid enrollment appointment and when both the home and host college’s ePermit portal officially opens.

CUNYfirst → Student Center → Course Planning and Enrollment → Enrollment Dates → Term & Hunter College → ‘Appointment Begins’

If ‘Host Session’ is unavailable for the host college you selected, it is an indication that their portal is not currently open or has closed. Contact the host college for their opening/closed dates or retry periodically until the host session is visible. Students may also use the magnifying glass icon to look up possible options.

Submitted ePermits are time-stamped and reviewed in the order they are received, typically within 7–10 business days (excluding weekends, holidays, and college closures). Processing times may be longer during peak periods. Students are encouraged to check their ePermit status regularly via their CUNYfirst account for updates. If no decision is made after 10 business days, contact us at epermit@hunter.cuny.edu.

WE DO NOT EXPEDITE REQUESTS.

The processing time at the host college is beyond our control, varies by institution, and depends on their application volume. All colleges require sufficient time to process ePermit requests.

Applicants with active negative service indicators (also referred to as Holds) that restrict enrollment (such as adding or swapping courses) are ineligible for ePermit consideration or approval at any time. Common Holds include Advisement, Athlete, Bursar, Dean of Students, Dismissal, Immunization, Proof of Status, Major Declaration, Residency, Undergraduate or Graduate Admissions Office holds, etc.

To review your CUNYfirst for holds, use the following navigation: CUNYfirst→ Student Center→ ‘Tasks and Holds’. If you have items in the Holds list, review details such as the term it affects, reason, contact information and instructions on resolving holds.Common positive or neutral service indicators, such as ‘Picked up Diploma’, are NOT Holds & they do not restrict add or swap courses.

Service indicators placed by other colleges do not impact your Hunter account or your ability to enroll in Hunter courses and vice versa unless it is a Universal Hold, which impacts all CUNY Colleges.
